NMCH and the gang of three ..
Don’t click on this link if you do not want to be depressed.
These global health facts made the decision for us.
We have decided to work in Mother Terrass’s Kolkata for building the first of many medical colleges and hospitals. Nalanda Medical College and Hospital will help improve the per capita availability of doctors in India.
Some questions that we get asked often are:
Q1) What is the reason for calling it Nalanda Medical College and Hospital ?
NMCH would be a center of excellence and what better way to focus the energy of everyone involved on this single goal than naming it Nalanda
Q2) Who is this gang of three?
Prof. Janat Shah: Giving us the courage to do it. More importantly refilling the optimism when it goes down.
Dr. Vidushi Savant: Psychiatrist. Many years of experience in world’s best medical schools and colleges.
Vikas Kedia: Well you are reading this blog!!
Q3) Why should we believe that you can do it?
- We are ready to put a large part of our life earnings in an escrow a/c with the condition that this money can only be spent for creating NMCH.
Q4) What is the obstacle that needs to be overcome?
The MCI has a rule that medical colleges need 10 acres of land. We need the local government to work with us to give us this land.
Q5) What do you mean by give us the land. Do you want it for free?
No we will pay competitive prices in an open free fair auction.
The meat of this discussion is the concept of open free fair auction ..
The following 3 terms of the auction make it unfair for us:
1. An undisclosed reserve price: This makes NMCH compete against an unknown standard with the good but misplaced intent of maximizing revenue collection.
2. Void if one bidder: Why should NMCH have to depend on if someone else shows up at the auction or not?
3. Not placing value on creating NMCH in defined time: If you just sell the land, you will end up selling it to a land buyer and not someone with the intent of creating a medical college and hospital.
Policies designed with the worst market participant in mind are counterproductive.
At this time, we are trying to reach out to WBHIDCO.
